After all the excitement of Ruddington’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations at the beginning of June, there’s another, big weekend event taking place all over our village at the start of next month.
On Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd July, from 2.00pm to 6.00pm on both days, ‘Ruddington Open Gardens’ is back for the first time since 2018. It is usually held biennially to raise funds for Save the Children and Action for Children. Unfortunately the COVID-19 pandemic, with all the associated restrictions, forced its cancellation in 2020.
However, organiser Jane Piggott is pleased to announce its return for the summer of 2022 with even more of a ‘festival’ feel: “As well as all the gardens and allotments, there will be refreshments at various venues, ‘live’ music on both afternoons at Ruddington Methodist Church, vintage bus rides (Saturday only), plant sales, stalls and games, and a free children’s picture trail” reveals Jane. “There will also be an art exhibition and workshops provided by the Ruddington Art & Craft Society at the Framework Knitters’ Museum.”
Admission to the gardens this time will cost £5.00 per adult – with the entire proceeds going to the two kids’ charities. In 2018 this totalled an impressive £2280 after attracting over 400 visitors. Programmes for this year, including a village map, are already available at various village shops and at Thomas James Estate Agents on High Street.
“Look for the posters advertising programme sales” says Jane. “We will also be selling these programmes on the morning of 25th/26th June and 2nd/3rd July from 10.00am at Ruddington Co-op. Visitors will be able to buy programmes at any of the participating gardens/allotments and at the Methodist Church, too, so it’s possible to start your tour anywhere you wish. The programme covers both days and accompanied children are free.”
Meantime, if you’d like any further information, or can help in any way, you’re asked to contact organiser Jane by emailing her at je.piggott@btinternet.com, or email Mike Davey of Ruddington Gardeners’ Association at mrdavey004@btinternet.com or email Chris Marriott of Ruddington Art & Craft Society at thedesign4@googlemail.com.
Jane adds: “Please do support this charity event if you are able to. We would love to see you!”
It certainly sounds like a great excuse for another #RuddyGoodDayOut!
